Paint By Number & Venus Paradise

It seems like only yesterday but it has been countless years since I got my very first paint by number kit. This hobby is a real treat for anyone who is interested in creating beautiful paintings but doesn’t know the ins and outs of the art form. The paint by number kit is a great starting point for potential artists of all ages.

The introduction of the paint by number kit was way back in the 1950s. The kits offered a means for children of all ages to get acquainted with the process of creating a painting on their own. The innovative idea of the paint by number kit is nothing short of genius. While this hobby had its hey day a few decades back there seems to have been a resurgence of interest in this craft.

I received my first paint by number set back in the late 1970s. The hobby was still going strong back then and I was among the many eight year olds that became enchanted with this art form. Of course, this hobby eventually led to my interest in becoming a painter hobbyist to this day.

When you are a child, new tasks seem to come easier to you, especially in the realm of creativity. The paint by number kit is a wonderful way to introduce the craft to younger kids but adults can really benefit from the process of using one of these art kits. They help develop an understanding about how to use the various colors. Painting by numbers is great inexpensive therapy as it is very relaxing and satisfying,

One paint by number kit led to another and then another. I remember painting landscapes that I could only imagine in my mind. Complex images were a breeze to complete using the painting set and I soon found that I was growing independent of the paint by number kits in no time at all.

Learning how to paint on your own is never easy. However, if you choose a product like the paint by number kit, the process becomes much easier. This is true for kids and for adults as well. It’s never too late to learn how to create a painting of your own. The kits make for wonderful practice, and after that, you can take some art classes to take your hobby further.

There is another reason that you may want to consider the paint by number kit. Who wants to invest a lot of money on a hobby that may not be all that appealing once it is started? The paint by number kit offers a trial period for the craft that requires relatively little investment. If you like painting, you can decide whether or not you want to invest more into the hobby.

Another memorable art set from the 1960s was the Venus Paradise Coloring Set. Although these were marketing mostly for children, these sets utilized colored pencils and it was easy to learn various colored pencil techniques. The outlined artwork was numbered and the colored pencils needed for the illustration were included in the set. These were vibrantly colored, rich media pencils, that would be considered a cross between the hard Berol pencils and the softer Prismacolor pencils, although the Venus Paradise colored pencils were hard enough to sharpen to a sharp point without crumbling. These sets provided a good many lessons in the use of color in lifelike illustrations, and made for an easy transition to paint by number sets.
